Oxford Landing Chardonnay #16174
Oxford Landing Chardonnay

Oxford Landing Chardonnay is grown on a range of sandy soils of varying depths, over limestone. Careful irrigation control promotes well-balanced vine canopies so the fruit is not overexposed and maximum flavours are retained.
In a repeat of the 2002 vintage, weather conditions in the lead up to harvest were unseasonably cool, allowing for perfect ripening conditions and retention of excellent levels of natural acid. February and March were warm and dry, leading to even ripening of the fruit.
The near-perfect conditions have resulted in a balanced wine with great fruit weight and excellent levels of natural acidity. 20% of the blend was fermented using ’wild yeast’ with extended lees contact post-fermentation. These factors combine to contribute an extra layer of complexity and texture to the wine.

The Oxford Landing Chardonnay 2004 is a pale gold colour with hints of green. Aromas of lifted peach, citrus and tropical fruit combine with subtle notes of cinnamon spice and nougat. The palate displays fresh stone fruit and melon flavours, leading to a creamy textured mid palate. A lively citrus acidity complements the natural fruit drive of this wine, leading to a clean, refreshing finish.

Harvested: February & March 2004
Oak Treatment: Fermented & matured for 12 months (reserve wine from previous vintage approximately 5%) in French oak barriques and hogsheads
Alc/Vol: 13.5%
Total Acid: 6.7 g/L
pH: 3.41

Press Reviews/Awards
Review of Oxford Landing Chardonnay 2003
"This has a touch of sweet vanilla oak on the nose with delicate green melon flavours on the fresh, soft and rich palate. Has a creamy mouth-feel and is a classic example of the inexpensive, best-selling Aussie chardonnays in the US. Winemaker Teresa Heuzrenroeder says: "Extended lees contact after fermentation gave this an extra layer of complexity." A real bargain."
