Oxford Landing Chardonnay #16175
Oxford Landing Chardonnay

Chardonnay at Oxford Landing is grown over limestone in sandy soil of varying depths. Carefully controlled irrigation promotes well-balanced vine canopies producing fruit that is not overexposed and maximises the retention of flavours.
Near perfect conditions during the lead-up to harvest also ensured optimal retention of the usual diverse spectrum of fruit flavours we achieve for our Oxford Landing wines. Unexpected rainfall in late February hastened the end of harvest to ensure minimal damage to later-picked fruit.

The Oxford Landing Chardonnay 2003 is pale gold with hints of green. Lifted citrus, melon and tropical aromas intermingle with subtle hints of honey and toasted nuts. The palate shows fresh citrus fruit flavours which are balanced by a creamy, textured mid palate, the result of extended lees contact at the end of fermentation. Lively lemon acidity complements the citrus fruit flavours and palate richness leading to a long refreshing finish.

Harvested: February and March 2003
Alc/Vol: 13%
Total Acid: 6 g/L
pH: 3.36

Press Reviews/Awards
"The price is tremendously variable but that’s because it’s such a good wine... Dive in every chance you’ve got is my advice, because this is about as good as budget chardonnay gets. It’s got delicious, peachy varietal fruit flavours at its heart. But a bit of smart winemaking adds a tasty complexity. A portion undergoes ferment with wild yeasts. A portion had contact with American oak. And most of it sits on yeast lees for a period. All this adds up to interesting aromas, flavours and textures well integrated with attractive fruit flavours."
Chris Shanahan, Sunday Canberra Times (AUS), January 1, 2004
