Oxford Landing Merlot #16156
Oxford Landing Merlot

Conditions throughout the 2003 growing season and leading into harvest were warm and dry. February brought enough rain to refresh the vines and cooler, dry conditions followed, which were perfect for ripening and flavour development.
The grapes for this wine have been strategically planted with specially grafted vines from our own nursery on low vigour and well drained sites. Careful irrigation control and detailed pruning promote well-balanced vine canopies, which maintains appropriate crop levels and ensures the fruit is not overexposed, thereby maximising quality.

Oxford Landing Merlot 2003 is a deep crimson red with hints of purple. Vibrant aromas of red berry fruit and plums are complemented by anise and black jube notes. The palate shows generous sweet plummy fruit and hints of liquorice and mint. Subtle fleshy tannins typical of Merlot lead to a very soft finish with lingering flavours of berry fruit. A treat to drink right now.

Harvested: March & April 2003
Alc/Vol: 13.5%
Total Acid: 6 g/L
pH: 3.47

Press Reviews/Awards
BLOODY GOOD - "This beautiful cheap merlot is deceptively light, but Max was particularly taken by its interesting, herbal, cedary, curranty merlot flavours. It may be light and elegant, but it’s beautifully balanced and well made for an under-$10 wine. Yalumba has done very well with merlots in Quaff over the years, and we think its experience shows in this good-value example."

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2005 - The best 400 wines in Australia under $15
