Merlot grown in the Barossa gives rich, soft wines of velvet silkiness and suppleness. Since 1991 small parcels of Peter Lehmann’s deliciously drinkable Merlot have been bottled and sold exclusively though the Peter Lehmann Cellar Door. The 2001 vintage of this wine is the first Peter Lehmann Merlot to be released nationally as a straight varietal blend. Merlot has been a prized grape the Peter Lehmann winemakers have been using for many years as one of the varieties in the great Mentor as well as in Clancy’s blends. This is a premium wine of superb balance and structure showing all the traditional characters of this great variety. Colour: Dense reddish black Bouquet: Very soft nose primarily showing dusted chocolate fruit Palate: Rich, ripe velvety plum with beautifully integrated French oak, soft persistent tannins, delicious fullness on the front and middle palate, with a firm long finish Wood: Matured for 12 months in French oak hogsheads Fruit Source: Barossa Valley Cellaring: An excellent wine to enjoy now or can be cellared with confidence for another 5 years Alc/Vol: 14% Serving Suggestion: Braised veal shanks, duck confit, or deliciously pink roast beef.
