Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 #16151

The 2001 vintage was the best growing season the Mount Barker region has witnessed in several years. A very warm, dry summer was followed by warm to moderate temperatures throughout autumn allowing near perfect ripening conditions for fruit. Colour: Intense deep red/black in colour. Aroma: A fantastic combination of berries, rich ripe fruit with hints of vanilla oak. Palate: The palate follows on from the nose and is packed with rich ripe berry fruit. Soft and silky oak caress the palate for an elegant and perfectly balanced wine. Cellar Potential: Approachable now, but will definitely reward cellaring for 15 years. Suggested Foods: Full flavoured red meat dishes. Technical Details: Fruit was selected from our mature vineyards in the Mount Barker region with the average age of vines being 30 years. The fruit was picked at 13.8 beaume. A mixture of Bordeaux yeast and pdm 796 was added at the crusher. Once the fruit was crushed, the fruit was sent to potter fermenters where the grapes were left on skins for three weeks. The wine was pumped over twice daily to gain colour and tannin extraction.
