Yalumba Eden Valley Shiraz + Viognier 2001 #16162
Yalumba Eden Valley Shiraz + Viognier 2001

Yalumba boasts the largest Viognier resource and the oldest commercial vines in the Southern Hemisphere and are well known for their pioneering work in Australia with this exotic and luscious white grape.

The addition of Viognier to Shiraz intensifies the colour, adds an extra dimension and a wonderful fragrance to the bouquet, and brings softness to the rich and powerful Barossa Shiraz. This rare blend from Yalumba of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier is 100% Barossa, with the majority of the fruit sourced from the Eden Valley.

The 2000/2001 growing season was near to perfect, with much needed winter and spring rains filling the soils allowing the vines to begin their growth in near perfect conditions. Flowering was followed by a warm and dry ripening perios, leading to wines of good quality.

Yalumba Hand picked Barossa Shiraz Viognier 2001 is astonishingly aromatic, with the Viognier contributing perfumed scentes of apricot blossom, honeysuckle, and rose petals, while the shiraz displays sweer aromas of cloves and cinnamon, cassis, mulberries and boysenberries over intergrated cedar/vanillin oak. The fine-grained, long, stylish and tightly focussed palate of small dark berry flavours and even wild forest floor complexity interwines with powdery tannins that build toward a long, lingering savoury finish. Gloriously expressive!
